The Division of Labor Standards Enforcement of the California Department of Industrial Relations administers all labor laws that protect adults and minors (EXCEPT government employees, who are covered by the United States Department of Labor). The Division investigates and resolves wage claim complaints and inspects work sites for compliance with worker protection laws and regulations. The Department of Industrial Relations does not License or regulate dance studios or dating services.

Complaint jurisdiction:

Payment of wages; hours of work; equal pay for equal work, employer retaliation against employees who request an inspection of or make changes in unsafe or unhealthful working conditions.

Complaints outside jurisdiction:

Problems involving governmental employees; worker injury or illness; unsafe or unhealthful working conditions (except as described at left). Problems with dance studios or dating services.
