The California Department of Conservation assures the wise use of California's mineral, geothermal, petroleum, and soil resources.
The Division of Oil, Geothermal Resources and Gas supervises the drilling, operations, maintenance and abandonment of oil, gas, and geothermal wells to assure responsible use of these resources and to prevent contamination and damage from drilling operations. It monitors repressuring operations to reduce land instability over or adjacent to oil, gas, or geothermal reservoirs. The division also collects and publishes statistics of oil, gas, and geothermal well drilling and production; maintains maps; and produces technical reports.
