An interpreter is an individual who translates orally (or in writing) from one language into another. Individual must be certified to act as interpreters in administrative and/or court hearings, excluding small claims court proceedings. Interpreter examinations are conducted periodically through the entities listed below. There is no office in state service that retains a list of interpreters. The interpreters employed throughout state service are individuals who have been certified by their agency because there was a need for a language translator in that agency.

Administers the examination for individuals interested in the Federal Court Interpreter Certification Exam (FCICE) Program. Consumers may contact this office to order an informational package on how to become a certified federal court interpreter.
