The Federal Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, administers and enforces the Federal Tax Code, collects federal taxes, and provides taxpayers with assistance in filing their returns.

The Taxpayer Advocate Service is an IRS program that provides an independent system to assure that tax problems which have not been solved through normal channels are promptly and fairly handled. The Taxpayer Advocate independently represents taxpayer's interests and concerns within the IRS.
