The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection provides fire protection and stewardship for California's privately-owned wildlands. These services include inspections and patrols during extreme weather conditions. The Department maintains a fire prevention and control system, and maintains and improves the quality of land and vegetative resources. The Department also assists during local emergencies and natural disasters, offers rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person who willfully sets fire to any property, and also collects fire suppression costs when it determines that a person is responsible for a fire. The department's programs include:
