The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) oversees the inspection of meat and poultry, ensuring that only safe, wholesome, and truthfully labeled products reach the consumer. The Department is also responsible for educating consumers on the proper storage, handling, and preparation of the product after purchase.
They also monitor and investigate complaints of food overpricing by large companies; inspects equipment used to process meat and poultry, and safety aspects (presence of bacteria) in meat and poultry.
