The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates the non-governmental use of radio frequencies that include both radio and television (also cable TV) broadcasts used for communications and entertainment. The Commission receives complaints about television and radio broadcasting and interference, including citizen's band and amateur radio. The FCC also has jurisdiction over long distance telephone companies.

Complaint Jurisdiction:

The FCC is able to advise consumers of their rights on the following issues: telephone slamming Telephone, Consumer Protection Act -unwanted telephone solicitations, unwanted FAX solicitations, cable broadcast interference, telephone pay-per-call services cellular bill & service complaints, indecent or obscene broadcasts, CB interference, telephone dial-a-porn television & radio broadcast programming, telephone calling cards, television or radio reception interference.

Complaints outside jurisdiction:

Cable TV service or billing, problems, false or misleading advertising.

The FCC Complaints and Investigations Branch Mass Media handles complaints pertaining to TV and radio program or advertising content. Does not handle complaints concerning false or misleading advertising. All complaints must be in writing.
