The California Department of Consumer Affairs, California Board of Accountancy (CBA), licenses and regulates certified public accountants (CPAs), public accountants (PAs), accountancy corporations, CPA and PA partnerships. Accountants audit, compile, investigate, and certify financial transactions and accounting records.

Complaints regarding fee disputes, bookkeepers, tax preparers, and accountants who are not CPAs are not handled by the Board of Accountancy.


The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Member Services institutes disciplinary action against member CPAs who are certified by the State and Territories.
