Statistics for births, deaths, and marriages are kept by both the county and the state. Divorce records are available through Superior Court in the county where the divorce was filed; the County Clerk Recorder's Office does not maintain records on divorces.
Statistical records can be ordered from the California Department of Public Health, Office of Vital Records by anyone who can provide sufficient identification. However, county records may be confidential and available only to the subject of the record or by court order. Confidentiality policies differ by county.
