The California Department of Food and Agriculture ensures that consumers, handlers, and producers receive accurate weights and measures of the commodities and services they purchase.

Complaint Jurisdiction:

Cleanliness, wholesomeness, truthful labeling of meat and poultry produced in establishments exempt from federal regulation, maturity, grade, size, weight packaging and labeling of fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs, beans, commercial feed, etc.



Complaint Outside Jurisdiction:

Inspection of processed food, (canned, frozen, or packaged) food stamps, and farm advisor activities (information on growing foods).



The California Department of Health Services, Food and Drug Branch investigates purity, quality, safety, labeling for foods, drugs, drinking water, bottled water, wholesale warehousing prices, expiration date on products, processed, canned, packaged foods, natural herb food claims, medical devices. Inspects companies that manufacture in California.
