The Osteopathic Medical Board of California (its name was changed in 1992 from Board Osteopathic Examiners) licenses doctors of osteopathic medicine. It is a statutorily created board that functions under the Department of Consumer Affairs.


Osteopathy is a system of healing based on the theory that most diseases are the result of structural abnormalities of the body that may be corrected by manipulation of the affected parts. The board approves schools of osteopathy and enforces regulations governing osteopathic physicians and surgeons.



Complaint jurisdiction:

Advertisements claiming cures for specific diseases; fraud; misrepresentation or unprofessional conduct; violations of narcotic laws; excessive prescribing or administering of drugs or treatment.


Complaints outside jurisdiction:

Allopathic doctors and chiropractors.
