Individuals who assist consumers by shopping for available loan rates or lenders require only a business license to advertise themselves as "Loan Finders." The consumer must pay the loan finder a nonrefundable fee whether or not the loan is secured. The nonrefundable fee must be noted in the advertisement.
If a consumer has a complaint about the service provided, civil resolution may be the only recourse. If the complaint is about fraudulent advertising, the matter may be referred to the consumer'slocal District Attorney or the Office of the Attorney General.
