Internet auctions are not regulated by the state government in California.
The following tips are recommended to avoid being scammed.
- Understand how the auction works. Information is provided in the auction web sites. You should ask questions before you bid.
- Check out the seller, and contact the Better Business Bureau.
- Be especially careful if the seller is a private individual. Private sellers are not regulated therefore if you have a problem, it could be very difficult to resolve.
The online auction may have a fraud protection program and/or a dispute resolution program.
