Interior Designer

An interior designer, also referred to as an interior decorator, plans and executes the layout and decoration of an architectural interior. Under Section 5800-5812 of the California Business and Professions Code, an interior designer does not require a license. However, to advertise as "certified" or "registered", an interior designer must become certified. An interior designer may become certified by successfully completing the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. Certification allows an interior designer to specialize in the areas of commercial design, health care, retail or store planning, hospitality, historic preservation, and so forth.
