The Department of Homeland Security was created to empower a single Cabinet official whose primary mission is to protect the American homeland from terrorism. The Department has a clear, efficient organizational structure with four divisions.

  • Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
  • Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
  • Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
  • Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
  • U. S. Coast Guard
  • U. S. Secret Service
  • Office of Inspector General
  • Border and Transportation Security
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response
  • Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Countermeasures
  • Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection

The Department of Homeland Security's mission is to prevent terrorist attacks within the United States, to reduce America's vulnerability to terrorism, and minimize the damage and recover from attacks that do occur. They will mobilize and focus the resources of the federal government, state and local governments, the private sector, and the American people to accomplish its mission.
