The Department of Consumer Affairs, Board for Geologists and Geophysicists, examines and licenses geologists and geophysicists and certifies engineering geologists in California.

Complaint jurisdiction:

Deceit, misrepresentation, violation of a contract, fraud, incompetency,or negligence

Complaints outside jurisdiction:

Fees, complaints against engineers (Engineers are licensed by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors).

The Division of Mines and Geology serves as California's geological surveyor, and identifies geological seismic hazards and their underlying causes. All mined lands reclamation and the conservation and wise use of mineral resources is regulated by the Surface Mining and Reclamation Act.
