The California Employment Development Department (EDD), sometimes referred to as the Job Service, provides employment services for all California employers and job seekers. It helps those in need to become self-sufficient through job training and employment programs. The EDD administers the payment of both unemployment and disability insurance (UI and DI) benefits. Under the UI program, the EDD pays benefits to workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. Under the DI program, the EDD pays benefits to workers when they are unable to perform their usual work because of an illness or injury not related to their jobs.
