Dietitians are not regulated by any government agency in California. Standards for eligibility to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians are determined by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the American Dietetic Association.

The national examination for Registered Dietitian (RD) is administered by:

American Dietetic Association

The American Dietetic Associaion offer information available on careers, publications, continuing education, credentials, food and nutrition references. Will provide a list of states that require additional state level exams and licensure. California does not require licensure.

Types of Dietitians:

  • Clinical
  • Corporate
  • Consultant
  • Research
  • Floor Management

A registered dietitian who passes the national exam and is practicing in California is automatically registered with the California Dietetic Association.
