Under the U.S. Department of Treasury, the U.S. Customs Service enforces immigration laws and regulates and inspects all items being imported into the United States. The Customs Service cooperates with 65 separate agencies to enforce laws and regulations for approximately 600 categories of items. Customs will hold any item indefinitely for that agency's inspection.
