The California Department of Consumer Affairs, Court Reporters Board establishes and maintains competency standards in court and deposition reporting. It certifies court reporters through examination and licensing and also establishes the minimum curriculum which must be offered by court reporting schools. The board investigates complaints and conducts administrative hearings involving licensees. (Chapter 26 of the 1994 {AB 1807} statutes changed the name of the board from Certified Shorthand Reporters Board to Court Reporters Board.).
Complaint jurisdiction:
Fraud or dishonesty, willful violation of duties, incompetency and gross negligence, unprofessional conduct, failure or delay in providing transcripts, unlicensed activity.
