The Better Business Bureaus (BBB) is a non-profit service organization supported by businesses which stress compliance with ethical standards of marketplace conduct. The BBB will arbitrate consumer business disputes informally and privately if the consumer and business cannot resolve an issue. Both parties must agree to the arbitration decision, which is final and binding.
The BBB also has a variety of pamphlets and other educational materials to inform consumers about purchasing and to provide performance reports on individual companies.

The BBB cannot assist with:
- Legal advice or where legal action was initiated
- Collection of debts
- Debt collection mediation once collection agency is involved
- Credit ratings on companies or individuals
- Employer-employee or non-business disputes
- Malpractice claims against doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc.
- Test or rate products, or judge prices per se
- Does not endorse, recommend, or disapprove of any product, service, or company
- Tenant/landlord issues
- State or government agency issues
- Old complaints (if over a year old may not be investigated)
