The U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), issues and enforces rules and regulations for the manufacture, operation, and maintenance of aircraft. The agency performs flight inspections in the United States and abroad, also researches and develops procedures and devices for a safe system of air navigation.
Passenger bumping, lost baggage, smoking, customer service, refunds of fares, rates, ariffs, and unfair or deceptive practices of airlines do not fall under the jurisdiction of the FAA.
