Automobile (Mechanic's Lien)
From Consumer Wiki
|
A mechanic's lien is the authority under which a garage holds a vehicle for payment. This action is taken because the repair shop has parts and labor costs invested in the car. It is a possessory lien when the repair shop has possession of the vehicle and the consumer does not pay for services due. Consumer should contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for exceptions and requirements to process a lien.
Additionally, according to the B & P Code 9884.16, "No person shall have the benefit of any lien for labor or materials unless he is licensed by the Bureau of Automotive Repair."
