Individuals wishing to retrieve their impounded vehicles must contact the office with the proper jurisdiction in the city or county in which the vehicle was towed. Vehicles are towed to centrally located storage facilities. Consumers should consult telephone directory for local city and county numbers. Persons in charge of storage facilities are required to accept a valid bank credit card tendered by the registered owner, legal owner or agent driving the vehicle.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has jurisdiction over impounded vehicles within the county.

Impounded vehicles within city limits are the responsibility of that city's Police Department.
