Real estate appraisers are licensed by the California Department of Real Estate Appraisers (DREA) by exam and are qualified to appraise commercial units, houses, apartments, lots, and acreage. An appraiser's license is required if the transaction is being funded by a lending institution such as a bank, mortgage company, or federal institution. If it is a federally-related transaction, they must be licensed. The Office of Real Estate Appraisers has the authority to establish standards for real estate appraisers, set qualifications for appraisers and discipline licensees.
