Hypnotists are not licensed or regulated by any state agency. Hypnotists were once under the jurisdiction of the Board of Behavioral Sciences, (State of California Department of Consumer Affairs), but, field was deregulated in 1991.
Also, Hypnotherapy, the use of hypnosis for behavioral changes, is a non-licensed profession in the State of California. Complaints about a hypnotherapist are a civil matter. However, if the hypnotherapist is licensed as an MFCC, LCSW, or psychologist the consumers should contact those boards.
